The rains bring along with
its ball of relief from the blistering heat of the sun and also a sense of
excitement amongst children and youngsters who love drenching themselves out in
the rain. Monsoon Season not only refreshes everyone dealing with the sizzling
heat of summers but also brings diseases along with it.
It’s a very busy season for
clinics & hospitals across the country as monsoon arrives with a handful of
unwanted and harmful viruses & diseases that leave no stone unturned to
reach out to the common man in various forms. Cold & Cough, Malaria,
Dengue, Stomach Infection, Diarrhoea, Fever, Typhoid & Pneumonia are some
of the diseases which make it to the top of the list. During this season, the
risk of catching various diseases is high due to unhygienic conditions,
unhealthy diet and not adhering to basic preventive measures.
There are simple precautions
that everyone should take to stay healthy or to prevent diseases in this
season-
1. Make a habit to wash your
hands- Bacteria and viruses become active during the monsoon & you can come
into direct contact with them only by crossing the roads or by holding on an
infected railing or bench. So, it's required to wash your hands frequently with
soap and warm water. Use hand sanitizers as and when required.
2. Don't touch your face-
Don’t scratch your eye or wipe your sweaty forehead as the virus commonly
enters our body through the eyes, nose, and mouth. Instead, use a napkin or
handkerchief.
3. Protect yourself from
dirty water- During this season, blocked gutters and dirty puddles are more
common. They become the sources of water-borne diseases like diarrhea,
influenza, cholera and fungal skin infections. So, in order to avoid these
diseases, wear rain boots. They can be taken indoors and stored in lockers
4. Avoid eating street
food- Food cooked and sold in the open
atmosphere likely to come in contact with airborne and waterborne diseases and
bacteria. It’s better to eat fresh, home cooked foods
5. Keep mosquitoes out- The
mosquitos grow during monsoon in standing water. To keep mosquitoes out of your
life, keep your house neat and clean. Never leave home without your spray or

6. Drink herbal tea- Herbal
tea has curative properties for coughs, colds and sore throat which is the most
common ailments during the rainy season.
We should all be
safety-conscious. Being alert and responsible for our surroundings is the
surest way to reduce these diseases/infections. It’s up to you. A little effort
on your part with care & precaution can really help you enjoy this rainy
season to its fullest.
